Conference Call Tips

Before the meeting

- Send out a schedule showing the time and date of your meetings, including time zones

- Write the month as a word to avoid confusion

- Send any documents needed for the meeting early enough for the recipients to review them

- Notify participants of the telephone number, security code and the conference commands

- Send an agenda - and stick to it

At the Start of the Conference Call

- Write down the names of people as they join so that you can remember who is on the call

- If the conferencing equipment you are using allows it, play back the names of the participants so that everyone knows who is on the call

- If any participants have not met, make introductions

- Request participants to mute their lines if they are not speaking

- Explain the purpose of the meeting and how long it will take

During the Meeting

Participants should:

- Join the conference call from somewhere quiet

- Say their name before speaking and address each other by name

- Resist side conversations

- Mute their lines when not speaking, this has a huge impact on overall sound quality

- Try not to put the conference on hold, it will put music into the conference

- Face the microphone when using a speakerphone and not put anything in front of the microphone

Speaker Phones

- Avoid tapping on the table or shuffling papers near speakerphones

- Always mute the speakerphone before moving it

- Some speakerphones will cause feedback when the volume is set too high

- If the sound coming out of your speakerphone seems intermittent or quite and you have already turned the volume up, try muting it

Choosing A Theme For Your Decor

Decorating your home is fun yet challenging. You're making a personal statement, but often you want to decorate around a particular theme to really bring a room together.

You can often pick a theme based on things you already own and plan on putting into the room. If you have a lot of items that would go well with a Southwest theme, you can shop for furniture that will go with it. Similar for Asian and other themes.

These things often reflect things you like. You obviously don't want to decorate your home in a way that you don't like. But if you don't have anything to help you focus on an obvious theme, what are you to do?

This is the case for many people, who have a lot of things to decorate with, but nothing to draw them all together. The trick then is to draw them together.

An obvious theme is not always the way to go, especially when you have a broad range of items to decorate with.

A smart way to start can be to go through the stuff you have and figure out what you're keeping versus what it's really time to get rid of or to put into storage for a time. If you can weed out the clutter from the stuff you still really want. If you're redecorating, odds are there are some things that you just want changed about the room. If it doesn't make you happy to leave it there, don't leave it in the room.

The furniture you choose can do a lot for your theme. If you aren't going for a theme such as Southwest or Asian where there can be a particular style of furniture, falling in love with a particular piece of furniture can really help you to get ideas flowing.

Similarly, a focal piece of art or decor can be used to draw a room together with the right furniture. Take a look at your focal piece and think about it as you shop. This can help to inspire your selection of furniture and other decor.

A good theme doesn't have to be overwhelming. It does not need to scream "THEME" but it can make a room more appealing and comfortable. After all, that's what decorating a room is all about. The decor of a room in your home should always please you, not make you uncomfortable. And choosing it should be fun.

Stephanie Foster runs http://www.exceptionalhomedecor.com/ which offers a wide range of furniture to consider. Consider your theme as you choose your entertainment center

Refinishing Your Own Furniture

Like many of us, I am not the best woodworker. However, I still like the idea of making my own furniture. I just do have the finances to outfit a home workshop like the ones you see on television. I can, however, apply stains and finishes. Staining and Finishing only requires some basic tools and experience. Plus, if I totally mess up a piece of furniture when finishing it, all I have to do is to remove the finish and start all over again.

Some of the basic tools youll need are: sandpaper in various grits, some good paintbrushes, rags, and a ton of patience. If you have an electric sander, that speeds up the sanding process but isnt required. I use a small orbital sander that both vibrates and swirls for a smooth finish.

In my town, there are a couple of stores that sell furniture for just these types of projects. They are usually called unfinished furniture or raw furniture stores. They typically have a good selection of furniture in pine, oak, and other species of wood. Youll usually find a good selection of furniture ranging from simple bookcases, armoires, coffee tables, all the way up to complete dining room sets.

With a raw or unfinished piece of furniture, one of the toughest decisions is how to finish it. Again, you will have several choices. You could simply paint it a color to match your dcor. Or, you could stain and finish it with a clear top-coat. And with stains, you have a myriad of choices. You could stain it a natural-looking wood color, or you could stain it a more vibrant color like red or purple! The main difference between staining and painting is that paint is opaque and cover the wood surface. Stains are transparent and let the beauty of the natural grain show through.

Your top-coat, or clear-coat on top of the stain can be either flat, semi-gloss, or shiny. The new water-based polyurethane finishes are easy to apply, quick to dry, and a snap to clean-up. And there arent a lot of nasty fumes with them.

Popular options right now are hand-painted finishes. You can paint your unfinished furniture to look like a charming folk piece or something from a French country cottage. And if you are up to the challenge, you can apply a faux finish with paint to your unfinished furniture to make it look like anything from stone to steel!

The most important thing to remember when you are finishing your own furniture, is to have fun, take your time, and dont worry if it doesnt turn out exactly as planned. Sometimes the best looking pieces are not the ones you started out trying to create!

How I Built A Network Marketing Business In Spandex At Midnight

Desire is a funny thing.

It can drive you to do unthinkable, desperate things when it reaches the tipping point. Your judgment can become clouded, and you can suddenly find yourself doing things normal, sensible people just don't do.

I found myself in this position a few short years ago as I pursued my career in network marketing. With the "seat-of-my-pants" move to California to work with my up-line. No money, no friends, and no where to live.

As I desperately searched for a way to find prospects and build my network marketing business, I stumbled across a prospecting/lead generation company that showed distributors how to generate local leads using "sizzle cards."

They were basically bright yellow business cards with a catchy headline and 800 number printed on them. The idea was to just leave them around town, at restaurants, gas stations, banks, car windows, etc, as you went about your day.

People would pick them up. Call your 800 number. Hear a nice 3 minute message full of testimonials, and were then prompted to leave their contact information if they were interested.

"This is perfect," I said to myself...

I cannot afford to spend $300+ a month on leads because I'm so broke I'm having to live on Del Taco and Raman soup. So if I can use these sizzle cards to generate interest locally, I can get some people over to the weekly opportunity meeting, and BAM! Instant network marketing down-line!"

About 10 days later my box of 2000 canary yellow cards arrived, and that evening I hatched my diabolical plan for the network marketing conquest of Temecula CA. (Insert evil villain laugh here).

I spent the next 2 weeks canvassing the town with my yellow sizzle cards.

Around midnight, I'd head out on my bike (use to race in recent years), stuff my spandex jersey pockets full of cards, and then ride all over this small town dropping cards in shopping centers, ATMS, and business parking lots.

The end result of my masterful network marketing campaign...?

Let's just say I was back in Texas a month later in a corporate job... Ouch.

So why did it fail? Simple. I was targeting the wrong people with the wrong message. I was targeting "business lookers," not "network marketers." I was targeting people "who would like to," but who never actually "do."

I wasn't leveraging my time through proper advertising that would get my message in front of hundreds or thousands of people a day automatically.

The "network marketing opportunity" message I was promoting was the wrong message to begin with. Network marketing is a business of advertising and promotion pursued by people who have no idea how to do either, and I was the Poster Boy for that description at the time.

I tell this story because I continue to see people do silly things like this today out of their sheer desire for success. Whether it's posting signs, hanging flyers on cars, or handing out CD's at the shopping mall.

The action is commendable, and the desire will pay off, but there are much smarter ways to market and promote your network marketing business.

Learning How To Sew - The Basics!

So you want to learn to sew but Grandma is off hang-gliding? Well, we can help with the very basics here. Well go over some of the first steps and then give you some places to go for more information. So take a deep breath and lets get started.

Find a pattern.
This can be the most fun part! But when you are really new at this you want to choose something easy. Dont look at fancy dresses yet. You dont want to mess with sleeves, zippers or facings...no running till you can walk. Also avoid doll clothes at first, tiny things are not easier. Straight lines good, curves bad. Look for the words Fast, Easy, Jiffy or Simple To Sew.

How do you find a pattern? Well any fabric store should have several pattern books, usually from the Big Four pattern companies, Vogue, Butterick, McCalls, and Simplicity. These generally are put out seasonally, for spring/summer or fall/winter for example. If you want more choices then come back to your friendly online pattern sellers. Thats where youll find other companies and a much wider choice.

Choosing a size.
If you are going to make clothing you need to figure out what size you want. Dont go by the size you buy at the mall. You need to know your measurements. And dont try to take your own, get a friend with a tape measure and write it all down. Youll need Bust (across the fullest part), Waist ( at your beltline) and Hips ( widest part) to start. There are lots of tricks to get exact measurements and later youll want more numbers, but these are the basics.

When you see a pattern you like compare the sizes to your numbers and pick the best match. Warning: every pattern company is different and they all change their sizing from time to time. Always check your numbers against any pattern you buy. Just because you bought a Vogue 12 last time doesnt mean you will always wear a Vogue 12. This is especially true for Vintage patterns...always check the measurements!

Now that you have a pattern envelope in your hand dont leave the store yet. You are going to need some more stuff. First is fabric. Start by looking on the back of that pattern envelope, there is usually a list of suggested fabrics. For your first projects to will want to stick with cotton or a polyester/ cotton blend. Fuzzy fabrics, fancy textures or sheers are tricky to sew, better saved till you know your machine better. Youll see the words - with and without Nap. That refers to texture on the fabric.

Velvet has Nap, cotton usually doesnt. For now you want Without Nap. Cottons will be found in quilting section of the store, or look on the end of the bolt ( thats the name of the cardboard that the fabric is wound around), on one end there should be a label with the fabric content and the price per yard (36 inches). Just poke around and youll find it. After youve found a few bolts marked Cotton you can look around the store and youll see similar fabrics. Go find one you really like. This is important. There is no point in sewing with fabric you dont like. It doesnt have to be the most expensive stuff in the store, but it should be a color or pattern you are excited about.

The pattern envelope will tell you how much fabric you need for the project youve chosen. On the front the choices will have small numbers or letters near each model. These are the Views. Your project will be on a chart that shows View 1, or View 2, ect.. The chart will also have the sizes listed, use it find how much fabric you need. Now, just pull that bolt out and take it over to the cutting table. The folks there can look at your pattern and help you get the right fabric and the right amount. Its usually a good idea to buy a little extra fabric...this allows for shrinkage and little mishaps.

Next look at that envelope back again. You are going to need some Notions. Thats a catch all phrase that includes all the threads, trims, buttons, zippers, snaps and other bits to finish your project. Since you are starting easy you shouldnt need much at first, but you will need thread. Pick a spool that matches the background color of your fabric, black thread for black fabric, ect. Dont worry about this to much, for the most part the thread wont show.

Resist going nuts here, there are tons of very pretty metallic and shiny threads out there, but remember unless you are sewing with decorative top-stitching the thread wont show. But you do want to get thread that has the same content as the fabric it will sew, so we want cotton or cotton/polyester blend. Check that Notions list again, do you need trim or anything else? It should be listed by View. Oh, and you are going to need some big flat space to lay all this out on. The fabric store will have these folding cardboard table toppers. They are pretty cheap and very nice to have. Now go pay and run home!

Prewash your material before you sew...wash it just like you will wash the finished project. Then you wont make a fabulous thing that later shrinks all goofy.

Lay out the tissue pattern. It will be huge, but you only need the pieces that are for your View and size. Cut the tissue pieces apart...but beware! There are weird little marks on the edges of the pattern pieces that look like arrow points, or like two arrows next to each other. They are usually called Notches. You need these later...dont cut them off! Instead cut around them. If there are any other odd looking marks save them...when in doubt dont cut stuff off. The marks vary from one company to another, the printed instruction sheet inside the pattern will explain them. That brings us to the all important Instruction Sheet.

This piece of paper is your friend. From here on out it will give you step by step instructions on how to proceed. There will be drawings and written instructions. Read them over at first, but dont get overwhelmed, sewing is a step by step process. There will be a drawing of how to lay out your tissue pieces on the fabric. Its like a map! The fabric is often folded, look at the drawing carefully. If it says Right Sides Together that means the colorful, brighter side of the fabric, the Right Side, should be touching when its is folded. (The plainer side is called the Wrong Side.) All the symbols used on the pattern will be on the sheet. Be sure you understand the ones that explain those notches, the cutting line and be sure you figure out the one that means Place on Fold ... thats not a cutting line.

There are a few other terms that might be confusing. Grain Line ( or Straight of Grain) is a term that refers to the weave of the fabric. You want your finished project to lay flat or hang smoothly. If you cut the pieces out with the grain (vs. against the grain) everything will lay better. The pattern pieces will show a Straight of Grain symbol, usually a double headed arrow. Just try to have that arrow point parallel to the Selvage. Selvage is that hard edge of the fabric. It isnt meant to be included in your project. When you layout the tissue pieces dont use the selvage.

Now pin the tissue pieces to the fabric using straight pins. Place the pins so that they dont cross where you will need to cut. Use plenty of pins, youll be glad later. Next use good sharp scissors to cut the fabric making sure you leave those notches in place.

Now you can turn to that Instruction Sheet and proceed! Just go step-by-step, reading carefully and trust your gut. If you get stuck picture the finished project in your head and see if the next step makes sense. And if you get stuck come on back...I know people who know stuff!

Cat Behavior Problems - Scratching Furniture

Understanding more about your cat's basic nature will often help you solve cat behavior problems. Domestic cats are descendants of wild relatives and therefore many instinctive traits carry over as part of their nature. This can become quite frustrating when you are trying to raise a well-behaved domestic cat!

Consider that cats are hunters by nature. In the wild, most of the smaller cat species subside on hunting small rodents. They are typically solitary, nocturnal animals that catch their own food to feed only themselves. Therefore, stalking and pouncing on small prey is a common behavior of cats in the wild.

Stalking and pouncing on your furniture is one of the many downsides of a domestic cats natural behavior! Your cat may be sharpening his claws, "hunting" a small thread, or marking his territory on your sofa. To solve this behavior problem, you can start by providing your cat with a designated scratch post.

Often times your cat will still prefer to use the sofa instead of the scratch post. There are many things you should try in order to direct your cat's predatory behavior away from your furniture. First, try using a towel or blanket to cover the piece of furniture they are attacking. If they are still going after your furniture, make a loud noise by shaking an aluminum can full of coins.

You can also try putting your cat in an area of the house where there is no furniture that they like to scratch. Put your scratch post in this area where it can be the only choice for scratching. Keep this up for several days if necessary. When it's time for your cat to come back to the rest of the house, put the scratch post near or in front of the piece of furniture that he scratches.

From time to time, your cat will likely revert back to scratching your piece of furniture. You will want to continue disciplining your cat with the noisy aluminum can or one of several other methods. Air Cans and water bottles can be used to create a condition your cat will want to avoid. Air cans make a disturbing noise, and cats hate to be sprayed by water. To be effective, you need to catch your cat in the act of scratching.

When your cat uses the scratch post, offer them rewards such as praise, treats, or brushing. When your cat uses the furniture, use your disciplinary methods. Positive and negative reinforcement are a major key to changing problem cat behavior. You must however, use behavior reinforcement by catching your cat in the act.

Remember that many cat behavior problems are the result of a cat's instinctive nature. Although you can't change a cat's nature, you can often change their behavior problems. If you implement the correct strategies, your wild cat will be well on the way to becoming a model catizen!

Want to know what makes your kitty tick? Many behavior riddles can be solved through simple, step-by-step techniques. Click here to read reviews on some effective products.

Effective Parenting Skills - Kids Grow With Guns Whether We Like It Or Not

As a parent, you are very likely to be against guns. The kind of guns that are used for violence against people. Just seeing one can send a shiver up your spine. An ideal society would be gunless but that can only be realized by a society of law-abiding citizens. If only law-breakers had guns, the gunless citizens would be without protection. In these times, differentiating the law-breakers from the law enforcers is difficult.

It is necessary to be able to enforce peaceful toys in the home. You have to be conscientious regarding this because children will go from plastic toy guns to guns that shoot water. Currently, air soft guns that fire plastic pellets are the 'in' thing. They are not cheap, either.

Role-playing and video games are slightly behind the air guns but on a computer or in the imagination, war can be more fully acted out. Though you might not be aware of it, your kids improve on their social skills after they get involved with playing war games. With other kids that share the same interests, they learn to work as a team. No one is harmed and it is a clean way to have fun. The proper protective clothing such as long sleeves and pants, face masks and goggles are worn. There are some adults who play, not for fun but with hurting others as the goal.

No matter how your children try to justify it, you should not alter your stance on toy guns. They should understand that asking you to buy the guns for them is out of the question. They will most likely try to convince the other parent, though. The way you react is based on economics, though. "That much? We could buy food for a month for that! No, dont even think it!"

Things like hazing are a completely different because it is violence done deliberately. It isn't a game any more. There is real pain. It is different than paint ball where you can wash the paint off when the game is finished. Your hands really are dripping with blood.

Nothing is learned about brotherhood in hazing, it is all about revenge. One group has to take a mouthful of milk from a half-full glass, spit it back and pass the glass to the next person. By the time it reaches the end of the line, it is almost full. This group will repeat the same thing or something worse to their pledges. This is how violence is escalated.

Does every boy or girl have to undergo this kind of rite of passage to become a man or woman? Fathers who do well in life without ever having joined a fraternity prove that they are not at all needed. It is sure that you don't want your children to learn that stealing test answer sheets is not proof of brotherhood or is any definition of it.

It is said that movies, television and comics is responsible for the breeding of a violent culture. With enough exposure to violence, a person's senses become inured to violence. People become desensitized to the bloody, gory images presented to them. The feeling of power can be like a drug. Many things, like guns and cars, can give a person a sense of power. Some people go from mild mannered to aggressive when they get behind the wheel. The same kind of thing can happen when a person is given a badge and a gun.

Can anything be done to change the violent culture that has been created? Those involved with violence in fraternities should be dealt with more strictly. It would help if students abstained from joining any fraternities. Many who do join fraternities do so out of a need to feel as though they belong. Being part of some 'brotherhood' will not guarantee anything, a student still can and needs to pass courses and find positions on their own merits.

Fraternity members are well liked by girls. But girls should remember that fraternity membership doesn't mean a man is necessarily a good man. This is especially true when it takes things like being able to take a beating and giving one to others to get into a fraternity. If there are no new pledges, fraternities will eventually cease to exist.

In addition to curtailing the amount of violence your children are subject to in the mass media, you also have to educate them in the best way to manage power. A person with power has greater responsibility. To be a good leader means more than just giving orders to others, it means being humble and serving others. Children need to also learn that brotherhood can result from something other than enduring pain and inflicting the same pain on others.

Since violence is all around us, it is impossible to completely insulate children from it. The best thing to do is ensure good values are ingrained in you children so when they are faced with violence, they will know how to make the right decisions and the right responses.

Regimental Stein Types and Military Toasts

German Regimental Steins began at the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-1871. Constitutional law required compulsory military service to all German men between the ages of 17 to 45 excluding only members of ruling houses, criminals and those deprived of their civil rights.

The German Military was divided into six land based groups which were of the following:

Artillery

Calvary

Technical Troops

Infantry

Military Supply

Engineer or Pioneer

Air Force (started at the end of the century)

During this time, military service was compulsory and it was considered a great honor to defend your country. The completion of a military man's service to the fatherland was a milestone to be commemorated.

At the completion of his active duty and to start his reserve service to his country, the soldier either purchased or was presented with a commemorative stein. These steins were considered a badge of honor by the men who had served in the German military.

Each stein was custom made and decorated with information relating to the unit that the military man had served with. The pewter lids were either cone or dome shaped with ornamental designs and the tops were crowned with figurines or symbols of the unit group.

Names of fellow men in the unit were displayed in columns on either side of the handles. The unit name, along with a picture depicting the unit he served in was on the front of the stein. Various other phrases and lettering would be applied representing his unit. Many of these steins were also decorated with a drinking toast or phrase that was popular with the men of the unit. Translated today, these phrases still make wonderful toasts.

At the local beer hall all others could see that he had served his homeland with honor and helped to ensure the security of his people. This alone, was an excellent reason to display the stein and to toast the honor of all those who had served Germany.

Regimental steins are still made today, but in replica versions. Authentic Regimental steins are still today a highly sought after item by many avid beer stein collectors.

The following are some popular military toasts found on some Regimental steins:

Artillery:

German - Kanonendonner is unser Gruss!

English - Cannon thunder is our greeting!

Engineer/Pioneer:

German - Brueder stosst die Glaeser an, hoch lebe der Reservemann!

English - Brothers bring those glasses on, highly live the Reserve man!

Infantry:

German - Dauerfeuer ist unser Gruss!

English - Constant fire is our greeting!

Navy:

German - Wert trev gedient hat seine Zeit, dem sei ein voller Krug gewith!

English - He who has served his time, has a mug that is fuller!

Calvary:

German - Stolz zu Ross die Kavallerie, auf dem posten spat und frueh!

English - Proudly rides the cavalry, guarding from morning to night!

The Definition of Ergonomics?

Constant repetition of certain physical movements can lead to the stress of the musculoskeletal system. These repetitive movements include movements like typing which can stress the hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, the neck as well as the back. This stress may occur to such an extent that you may experience some minor or major injuries.

By fitting your body to your workplace, you can avoid this sort of injury. You can also do this very easily by redesigning your workspace and making it much more ergonomic and comfortable. This can also be done by making sure you plan and redesign the tasks that you carry out on a daily basis. By doing this you stop the constant overuse of your muscles. You can also give yourself a break from repetitive tasks or you can easily choose to get help from other people or certain tools to prevent the level of muscle stress and strain. You can also completely redesign your workspace so that you can cope better what you are capable of doing and your limitations as well. For people who have a smaller stature than most, they can easily lower their wall mounted computer monitors in order to avoid constantly stretching their necks or shoulders. If youre much taller on the other hand you can easily raise these monitors so you avoid any unnecessary slouching.

Lighting is an important aspect in order to perform better in an ergonomic working environment. Strain of your eyes can lead to a whole lot of things such as headaches, fatigue and constant irritability. All these things can end up affecting your productivity.

The right body posture is also important as well and poor body posture is a cause for alarm. Using the right type of chair with the right height can help you maintain your good posture and avoid any backaches or uncomfortable positions too.

Ergonomics is about a whole lot more other than just the conditions of the areas you work in. If you are the type that is usually prone to getting cold quite easily, then you can easily work better in a much warmer climate. No one can work effectively when theyre shivering from cold on a daily basis. Ergonomics also considers a whole lot more, such as the psychology or any worker and the ability they have to solve any problems that they come up against. You should take the time to compare the requirements of your job against any strong or weak points that you have. By doing this you can easily find a much more ergonomic way of handling your job by redesigning your tasks to meet with your needs or your strong points. By doing this you can also get a better working relationship with yourself and anyone around you.

Ergonomics ensures that you easily cope with any technological aspects of your job and that you remain in better alignment with you equipment, your tasks and you increase your level of productivity.

These concepts often seem strange to most but a whole lot of people have found out that making their working environment more ergonomic, results in creating a better and much more aligned working environment which gives them what they need to feel a whole lot better about themselves and what they do. This way they are also more productive as well.

Money Merge Account Revolution

Americas new financial landscape is in its infancy, many Americans are unaware what is happening across the country. There is a new program that is coming to a town near you and it will change your life. The Money Merge Account is empowering homeowners through education and action in accelerating their mortgage payoff. Not only are they benefiting from putting themselves in a better financial position by paying off their mortgage, they are also getting a street-wise education on money.

By putting their money to work for them instead of the bank, homeowners are beginning to understand how hard their money can work. Money placed in the right position, will work 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. No breaks, no time off, no vacations. While we sleep our money is at work, while we sit in traffic, our money is at work. The Money Merge Account positions our money to allow for maximum interest cancellation. Keep in mind; canceling interest is exactly the same as earning interestto the penny.

It is my belief that once a good portion of the American population begins to understand and employ these concepts, it will be widely agreed that the lack of money education in schools will be looked at as a travesty. For now, while Americans take on more and more debt, the level of financial ignorance remains unchanged. United First Financial and the Money Merge Account are out to change that.

In my past articles, Ive gone through the workings of the MMA program. If you havent seen them already I would encourage you to read them, visit the United First Financial site and do your research. I will be hearing more about this program as media outlets are beginning to catch on to this revolutionary debt elimination program.

Experimenting With Reception Desks

Business owners and managers have started realizing the importance of office furniture, especially reception desks. That is why they have started paying careful attention to the kind of furniture that is used in an office building. This is evident from the fact that the popularity of and the demand for the latest designs in office furniture is increasing with each passing day. Nowadays, a lot of planning is involved in filling up a corporate office's interiors. Some even take the help of professional interior designers to make their office look more contemporary as well as aesthetic.

Reception desks and other office desks are today available in a variety of shapes and colours. People today love to experiment with various unconventional designs and colours. Gone are the days when tables used to either be rectangular or arched. They were mostly made of wood and were available in only limited shades of brown.

The shapes, designs and colours of reception desks available these days are numerous in number and cater to a broad and varied customer preference. Some managers prefer the classic look, while others like to experiment with the contemporary look for their office space. Modular office units are becoming very popular these days. This is because they are easy to set up, maintain and even shift, if necessary.

Dull browns are now a thing of the past. Reception desks are now available in a range of vibrant colors - from white, grey and beige to cherry red. These days, glass tops are most preferred since they provide a sophisticated look. The materials used in making furniture range from the traditional wood to the latest melamine and veneer.

The price range is quite broad; hence, there is something or the other that will suit all kinds of budget.

Profitable Home Sewing Businesses

If youre interested in home sewing businesses, youre onto a good thing. Home based sewing businesses have benefited from tremendous improvements in technology in the last few years.

The opportunities for home sewing businesses range from sewing specialty clothing to monogramming to commercial sewing. There are some absolutely fabulous machines and software out there that do everything from intricate embroidery to monogramming shirts, jackets, and caps for all sorts of businesses and sports teams.

So how do you go about starting a sewing business? First you have to decide on the type of home sewing business you want. As mentioned earlier, you can make specialty clothing such as wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses on a machine you likely already own.

You may, however, want to break into the commercial area where you embroider on caps and such for local sports and Little League teams. Before you can have any home based sewing business, you have to know what exactly type of sewing service that business is going to provide.

The next thing you want to do when looking into sewing businesses is to look at the costs involved if you are going to be purchasing equipment. Theres a wide range for you to choose from, and you can likely find exactly what you need at exactly the right price for your budget. Just make sure you deal with reputable companies. This is especially important if youre going to purchase used equipment for your home sewing business.

Now develop a business plan for your sewing business. It should include a budget and how youll use profits to grow your business in the future. You need to consider who the target market is for your home sewing business, and develop a plan for how youre going to reach it. Also, youll want to look at accounting needs, tax requirements, and liability insurance.

You also want to decide whether you want to have a partner or not. Often, its a good idea to have a partner, but make sure that person shares your vision of what youre doing. Also where you want to take your sewing business over time.

Once you have a business plan, follow it. It takes effort and determination to establish and sustain all businesses, whether theyre home sewing businesses or Fortune 500 corporations. There will be bumps in the road, but your business plan will help you manage them when they pop up. Be vigilant, and you can be the owner of a successful home sewing business.

And, please, dont forget to consider your family when considering home sewing businesses. Talk about how having a home based sewing business will affect them. Make sure everyone understands what it will mean to them. Youll be home, but youll be working.

This can make it hard for family members to know when you can stop and chat or go out for a bite to eat. Having everything out in the open will be a big help in the future when youre going crazy to meet a deadline and your family wants to go out for ice cream.

Once youve considered these aspects of home sewing businesses and have taken the plunge to actually start a home based sewing business, you want to get the word out. How much advertising you do depends on your budget, and you may not be able to do the type and amount youd like when your first start your home sewing business.

Some simple, inexpensive advertising and marketing materials you should consider are flyers and business cards. You should also look into placing small ads in your local newspaper.

Websites are something else you should look into for advertising and marketing your home sewing business. They arent nearly as expensive as you might thinkand are well worth the investment for the amount of business one can bring your way.

Metal Buildings in the 21st Century

Today, a number of the most beautiful churches in the United States and worldwide are built with 100% metal. Metal buildings are no longer considered the rusted out barns that blemished the American landscape for many years. Metal buildings now have hundreds of applications from sanctuaries to gymnasiums, from sports complexes to schools, from self-storage structures to grocery stores, from fellowship halls to pastors residences, from offices to structures that might conform to any human need today. The metal building technology has undergone myriad changes in its design and engineering that have now made this method of construction, one of the fastest growing facets in the church building industry today.

The simplicity of its design complemented with the versatility of the structures has fueled the popularity of metal structures for use as churches.

* The clear-span construction (or column-free interiors) and

* The high ceilings.

Both of these features are easily and readily accommodated with quality metal building design. Properly-constructed metal buildings have a track record of being extremely resistant to the forces of wind, snow, rain, seismic activity, and insect infestation.

Pockets unscathed with finesse unmatched!

The increasing popularity of metal building constructions, especially as the benefactor for churches also revolves around the cost effectiveness and swiftness of pre-engineered construction.

Some metal buildings can be purchased and erected at significantly lesser cost than conventional construction. All component building parts of a metal church are pre-punched, pre-drilled, and pre-welded at a factory prior to shipment to the erection site. This pre-engineering allows for rapid assembly processes and precludes the need for a specialized and expensive workforce. This results, thus in a lower quantity labor force required along with rapid assembly processes. Once delivered, depending upon its size, a church can be completed in far lesser time than more traditional building methods take. Metal buildings are also extremely flexible and can be designed for virtually any configuration. Metal building designs are no longer limited to the more primitive geometrical box shapes of the past.

Eco Friendly

The metal building industry is also a leader in the American recycling processes. The majority of all metal used in the United States is recycled and all new metal contains some recycled metal in its constitution. The fact that there is unlimited recyclables to any metal product is the most melodious piece of news for eco-friendly masses.

Alone or Lonely

Alone or Lonely? Which word can you identify with? Do you feel lonely because you are not in a relationship right now, whether it is because of a break up, divorce or death? Or are you embracing your singlehood and enjoying your alone time?

Dr. Bruce Fisher author of Rebuilding when your Relationship Ends outlines three stages of loneliness withdrawal, becoming busyholics and aloneness.

When a relationship ends your world can be turned upside. Life as you have known it has come to an end. When this happens many of us go into survival mode and withdraw. Withdrawal is so much easier than facing each day without your spouse or significant other. If you barricade yourself in your home or apartment then you dont have to face the awkward questions. For me the awkward questions were the worst, personally it took three months before I told anyone that my husband and I separated. Maybe this stage should be called denial instead of withdrawal. Withdrawing will work for a limited time, but before you know it the silence becomes deafening. It almost seems like the silence is mocking you, reinforcing that your relationship is over.

The silence will push many of us forward toward the next stage becoming busyholics. The silence is so deafening that you want to wipe it away and the only way you can do that is to fill your days so full that you have no time alone, to hear the deafening silence. If you are so busy by the time you get home or stop to rest you are so exhausted you immediately fall asleep to start the circus anew the next day. By keeping so busy you dont have the time to really assess your feelings and the pain and anguish are not real. Or at least that is what you are trying to make yourself believe. I was a victim of this stage, I filled my calendar so full making sure that I never had to be home alone, so I wouldnt have to face those scary feelings. Many people stay stuck in this stage because the next stage is way too scary; aloneness. You know these people, the ones that carry around the victim, bitterness or revenge badge. The ones who still talk negatively about their ex and when you ask how long ago the relationship ended, thinking it was just yesterday, they reply oh its been about ten years now. Talk about being stuck!

Many are afraid of this stage because the aloneness stage requires you to really feel. You begin to grieve the lost relationship and the pain and anguish become real. You are finally forced to face reality, the relationship is over, he or she is not coming back. This stage is where all of the healing occurs, if you let it. From this stage the foundation for your future is built. The key to successfully navigating through this stage is your willingness to experience the pain and grieve the loss of the relationship.

If you dont face the pain, feel it and work through it, then you will be plagued throughout your life with glimpses of the pain that you never resolved. The pain will help you stay stuck in a place that is not emotionally healthy for you or your family. I understand how easy it can be to push the pain away each time you get close to it, but if you keep pushing till you get to the other side chances are the issue that is causing you the pain will be resolved to never interfere in your life again. The problem is that many of us will stop when the pain starts to get raw. When we get to this place we stop and run the other way. By not resolving the pain or the issue that caused the pain it will continue to show up again and again reminding you that you have not dealt with it. So my advice to you is to feel the pain, even if it gets really bad, so you only have to go through the experience one time. The joy that you will eventually feel on the other side of the pain is definitely worth the work. Keep on pushing, ask for support from others if it gets to be too much, but dont give up on yourself. You are worth it. Give yourself the gift of happiness!

In my opinion the aloneness stage is the most important stage. This is the stage, if you give it a chance, where you will learn the most about yourself. From here you can begin to map out your future, design a life of your choosing. If you embrace this stage, learn and grow from it you will be in charge of your destiny not your destiny being in charge of you. And if another relationship is in your future, you will have gained the tools you need to attract the right partner into your life.

Swaziland Crafts

Swaziland is well known for having the greatest tourist attractions. Amongst the many attractions that Swaziland offers is the craftwork, which is a marvel to behold. Available in roadside outlets and specialists stores, the handcraft ranges from decorative features, natural jewelery, clothing, glassware, tableware, giftware, Swazi candles and many more.

Initially the Swazi handcraft craft industry was driven by the need for survival but in recent years it has experienced a shift and now is used, amongst other various reasons, to carry messages that are meant to create HIV/AIDS awareness. There has also been the Africanism factor, which has contributed to the booming handcraft industry both in Swaziland and the rest of Africa. This has seen a shift in consumer demand; People are now opting for more ethnic objects and are celebrating their African heritage which provides a ready market in the Kingdom.

Swaziland is a very resourceful country. Most of the crafts they produced are mainly from grass weaving. Swazi people use grass to weave baskets for any use, floor and sleeping mats, tableware, grass curtains, chicken nests and more. In making this craftwork, a special type of grass (lutindzi) is sourced from rocky mountains. The grass is very tough and has a waxy cuticle which makes it an excellent material for place mats as you can wipe them clean.

The process starts by harvesting the grass, arranging it and then painting it with the desired colors after which the grass is weaved. For all the stages of production, professionals are required, people who know how to cut the grass and not destroy it. Dominating the grass weaving are women who work from their homes or in the developed cooperatives.

Nude Art Photography

Nude photography is the genre of art photography, whose subject is the representation of the naked (full nude) or partially naked (half nude) human body.

The aesthetic value of nude photography and its boundary to erotic photography can only be determined with difficulty and inter-subjectively and is also affected by its numerous overlaps with pornography. In consequence, nude photography and erotic photography always find themselves branded in multiple ways, and labelled as works of artistic freedom, aesthetics, kitsch, junk or provocation. The boundaries of nude photography, erotic photography and pornography are so undefined and continuously changing that they are always determined and defined by the subjective moral view of the individual and the generally accepted cultural confines of customs and tradition.

Whether the picture itself is art or junk always lies in the eye of the beholder. One (subjective) definition of the worth of a nude photograph is: A nude photo is then good, when the Model shows it around at the coffee table at her grandmothers birthday party and receives positive feedback. (Gnter Rinnhofer) Other definitions have been by far more controversial. For Horst Werner this art form has always been about provocation and evoking of emotions. He prefers disgust, shock and aversion (as evoked for example by his photographs of nudes at a cemetery or of disabled people) to indifference, which in his opinion, is often the only reaction generated by other, more conventional art styles. Additionally, it is nowadays no longer such a taboo to depict the primary sex features of a human being. However, in contrast to pornography, nude photography does not actively pursue to excite the audience, although this does not exclude that it is consumed with this intention and effect.

Tasteful nude photography is often regarded as high skilled photography as besides technical knowledge and the ability to manipulate light the nude photographer also needs strong communication skills and the ability to build a positive relationship with his model. A modelling contract between photographer and model often includes additional remuneration to the model besides payment and publication rights.

Subgenres and Subjets

Feminine nudity must be given to men by the teaspoonful, not with a scoop. (Coco Chanel)

Nude photography divides into three basic forms: the "classic" full nude with a simple background, full nude model where model is completely naked; the detailed nude depicting certain details of the body, abstracting and making them anonymous, and emphasising the forms and structures of the nude; and finally the half nude, where the model is partially clothed or partially wrapped with accessories.

History and development

The nude is a classic subject in art. Already the early high cultures (Egypt, Crete, India among others) knew nude representations. Its development into other representation forms can be pursued from Greek clay to the art of the middle ages and on to the European art of the modern age. Since the renaissance, the study of the nude human body is an intrinsic part of art education at art academies.

Since around 1847 the nude has also become the object of photography, the first nude photographers including Philippe Debussy, E. Delacroix, Eugene Durieu and B. Braquehais. Models were both professionals and prostitutes and photographs were both artistic and spicy, which often invited the aversion of moral and law enforcement officers.
